A full day excursion taking in some of the best scenery Scotland has to offer. From shimmering Lochs and breathtaking mountain scenery to historic castles and castle ruins, enjoy the incredible views and settings of Argyll. Visit the magnificent Inveraray Castle and on our return journey back to Greenock we will stop by for some refreshments at the 310 year old haunted Drovers Inn.

Departing from the Ocean terminal Greenock we make our way to the picturesque highland village of Luss for our first stop of the day.

There has been a settlement here for over a thousand years at least and it is known that the Vikings passed through Luss in 1263 plundering the nearby communities. You can stroll along the shores of Loch Lomond or just wander around the village. Mackessogs Church is a fascinating place to visit with items of historical interest both inside and outside the church. Of particular interest is the “hog back” Viking grave dating from around the 11th century.

From Luss our journey continues over the “Rest and be Thankful” to Inveraray, a classic example of an 18th century planned town, built by the 3rd Duke of Argyll, chief of the powerful Clan Campbell. The town is a magnificent piece of Scottish Georgian architecture with its distinctive white washed buildings.

With just over 2 hours here, you have the choice to spend time at the iconic Inveraray Castle or Inveraray Courtroom and Jail where actual records for every person who was sentenced and imprisoned there are held. Discover how the wrongdoers were treated before the days of prisons.

From Inveraray we travel to the imposing Kilchurn Castle, which stands at the head of Loch Awe in a backdrop of soaring mountains, before we make our way to the Drovers Inn.

For over 310 years the Drovers has welcomed the great and good including the infamous Rob Roy MacGregor. Said to be “haunted” there are many tales and sightings of ghouls and ghosts wandering around the Drovers Inn.

From the Drovers Inn we make our way back to the Port of Greenock where our tour ends.

Costs are for transportation by air-conditioned mini/midi coach and services of a professional driver-guide.

Where do we meet the coach?

Our coaches park by the Patrick Street exit gate to the terminal. There will be members of terminal staff to guide you in the correct direction upon exiting the ship.

How long does our excursion last?

Our Shore Excursions depart one hour after the ship has docked and are due to return around 1 ½ hours before departure in most cases. Exact timings are dependent on the cruise times so please ask if you require more details.

What happens if our ship is not able to dock or is extremely late in arriving?

In the unlikely event that your ship is unable to dock or is extremely late in arriving then you may be able to claim on your travel insurance. If your ship arrives late but a tour is still possible then your tour will run. If it is too late for your tour to run, then a travel insurance claim would be your next step.

Your confirmation email should be sufficient evidence that a tour has been booked but please get in touch if you require any further assistance.

Do you shore excursions only depart from Greenock Ocean Terminal? (What ports do you leave from?)

Yes, as we are a Glasgow based company the only port which we serve is Greenock.
